Short and long-term maternal outcomes in patients with phospholipid antibodiesDivision of Rheumatology, University of Connecticut, School of Medicine, Farmington, CT, USA, parke{at}nso.uchc.edu By definition patients with phospholipid antibody (aPL) syndrome develop clinical thrombotic events and frequently fail to complete pregnancy successfully. Pregnancy is a physiological state known to trigger clinical thrombosis in aPL syndrome patients. This paper will review the short-term effects of pregnancy on aPL patients as well as the long-term outcome of aPL women who have attempted pregnancy.
