Sex-based differences in gene transmission and gene expressionHuman Genetics Program, Department of Pediatrics, NYU School of Medicine, 550 First Avenue, MSB 136, New York NY 016, USA The higher prevalence of certain diseases among women suggests involvement of genetic mechanisms linked to the sex chromosomes or of sex-limited gene expression that may be developmentally or hormonally regulated. Analysis of genetic markers and gene expression patterns provides the means for testing hypotheses related to these mechanisms.
