Programs in Physical Therapy, Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, IL, USA Conducting clinical trials in lupus presents unique challenges for the investigator. Since reliable data are crucial for precisely evaluating results, strategies must be in place to ensure that outcome assessments are accurate and consistent throughout a study. This paper reviews reliability in clinical research and specifically with lupus outcome measures. Suggested recommendations for ensuring reliability in lupus trials are provided.
